Adhyay 6 - The Divine Bow of Janakpur

King Janaka of Mithila had organized a Svayamvara for his daughter Sita. The condition was simple but impossible: to lift and string the massive Pinaka bow, which once belonged to Lord Shiva. Many powerful kings and even demons like Ravana tried, but they couldn't even move the bow an inch.

Vishwamitra commanded Ram: 'Rise, my son, and break the doubt of Janaka.' Ram walked gracefully towards the bow, which looked like a mountain of iron. The environment became silent as the entire world watched in anticipation. This moment was the precursor to the union of Lakshmi (Sita) and Vishnu (Ram) in their human forms.
