On the auspicious ninth day of the bright fortnight of Chaitra, during the midday hour, Lord Ram appeared to Queen Kausalya. He manifested in His divine form with four arms, but at the request of His mother, He transformed into a beautiful infant.

Simultaneously, Kaikeyi gave birth to Bharata, and Sumitra gave birth to twins, Lakshmana and Shatrughna. The entire city of Ayodhya turned into a place of celebration. The sun stood still in the sky for a month to witness the Lord's childhood pastimes. The appearance of Ram represents the descent of Maryada (divine order) on Earth.
